KAIST International Symposium on Carbon Neutral Gas Turbine
Welcome Message
It is a great pleasure to invite you to the KAIST International Symposium on Carbon-Neutral Gas Turbine. Gas turbines receive strong attention as a means of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The thermal efficiency of gas turbines reaches higher than 60 % when used as the combined cycle. When carbon-neutral fuels are used, gas turbines are expected to even further help Global Warming.
The gas turbine industry is a high-value-added manufacturing industry. The involved technologies are very complicated, hence not many countries are able to develop their own. Currently, only a few countries such as the USA, Germany, Japan, and Italy have their own independent technologies to manufacture gas turbines for power generations, and South Korea recently joined the group as having developed a medium-large scale gas turbine in 2019. The demands for gas turbines are expected to increase due to strict regulations on greenhouse gas emissions and intermittency of renewable energy. South Korea announced a roadmap moving into a hydrogen society and 2050 Carbon-neutral scenario is under development.
As a leading technology hub of Korea, the departments of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering of KAIST have invited industrial experts and regional and overseas researchers to participate in the KAIST International Symposium on Carbon-Neutral Gas Turbine. We hope that the symposium will help to accelerate the successful development of carbon neutral gas turbines within and outside of Korea.
